MATCH TIME The Association plays Wednesday, 10am start, no umpires required for FINALS.

Our seasons are September to February with a break December to February.

Winter season April to August.

Weather

 

a) Wet  Failing light

 

    i) On wet days no match may be cancelled BEFORE 12 noon.  Teams need not attend courts providing

       such cancellation is mutually acceptable to both team captains.  Failure to comply. No point awarded.

   ii) If because of rain play cannot commence by 1.30pm; the match must be abandoned.

  iii) When a match is abandoned owing to failing light or wet weather, unless one team at the time play

       ceases, has such a lead as would entitle it to claim the match, irrespective of starting time, the match

       shall be declared a draw, one point each.

  iv) Result cards must be forwarded listing team members to reach the Record Secretary by the Friday

       following the match. Failure to comply; no point awarded.

   v) In the case of teams not attending courts, the result card listing the players shall be forwarded to the

       Record Secretary, by the home team, and the visiting team shall forward written agreement to such

       cancellation together with a list of players to reach the Record Secretary, by the Friday following the

       match. Failure to comply; no point awarded.

 

b) Heat

 

     i) Cancellations are not permitted before the registered 11.00am temperature is known.  Teams need

        not attend the courts providing such cancellation is mutually acceptable to both team captains.

     ii)When the registered temperature at the Weather Bureau (phone No.1196 - MELBOURNE) is 30 deg or

        higher at 11.00am or on the hour or half hour thereafter, all matches in progress shall be abandoned

        immediately, and declared a draw, one point each; unless one team at cessation of play has such a

        lead as would entitle it to claim the match.

    iii)Result cards must be forwarded listing team members to reach the Record Secretary by the Friday

        following the match. Failure to comply; no point awarded.

    iv)In the case of teams not attending courts, the result card listing the players shall be forwarded to the

        Record Secretary, by the home team, and the visiting team shall forward written agreement to such

        cancellation together with a list of players to reach the Record Secretary, by the Friday following the

        match.  Failure to comply; no point awarded. 

Composition - Team/Watch

  • Each team shall consist of four women.
  • A match shall consist of six sets of Women's doubles in the following order:
    1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 1st and 3rd, 2nd and 4th, 1st and 4th, 2nd and 3rd.
  • In all cases, sets shall be won by the first team to reach eight games, except where By-Law 22 (C) applies.
  • No player shall play in more than three sets.

Finals

  1. The four leading teams in each section at the end of the Home and Away matches, shall play the final series on succeeding Wednesdays unless directed otherwise by the Management Committee or their proxies.

    • 1st Semi Final - 1st Team versus 4th Team
    • 2nd Semi Final - 2nd Team versus 3rd Team
    • Grand Final - winner of 1st Semi Final versus winner of 2nd Semi Final
    • No result; no Pennants awarded
  2. In unfinished Semi Final or Grand Final matches, play shall be continued from the stage at which the score stood when play ceased.
  3. In the event of a drawn Semi Final or Grand Final match, the last four players concerned in the match shall play a twelve point tiebreak, to decide the winner.
  4. All Final matches are to be played on neutral courts.
  5. Players who have played the number of matches to qualify in a lower grade shall be eligible for a higher grade.

Club Affiliation and Fees

All clubs applying for entry must be approved by the Management Committee.

     a) Each Club is required to pay:

    • An annual Affiliation fee of $5.00, payable with their winter team entries;
    • An Entrance Fee of $25.00 per team per season, which includes the registration of all players, irrespective of number.  This fee will not be refunded should a team withdraw.

     b) Any Affiliated Club not represented at General Meetings shall be fined the sum of $10.00

Courts

  1. To be accepted in the Association competition, a minimum of one and half courts per match must be available.  It is preferred that two courts be used for each match.
  2. The Management Committee has the right to the use of courts of any Affiliated Club for the purpose of playing finals' matches.

General/Annual General Meeting: September each year.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Association are to:-

      • Promote the game of tennis;
      • Organise a series of inter-club competitions;
      • Arrange social functions
      • Participate in interassociation and other such tennis matches, competitions, social events and other of tennis or sporting activities which are designed to further the game of tennis.

The EDWTA is over 60 years old and we welcome any Tennis Club that is interested in joining us, on a Wednesday.
